This Thanksgiving will be two years since we lost our great friend - Ryan Knight - unexpectedly. Ryan was one of the most engaging, fun, kind, and thoughtful people - and we miss him dearly. In his name and his memory, for a second year, we want to contribute to a cause that meant a great deal to him, his family, and our community - Kenosha youth hockey. We are hosting the 2nd Annual Ryan Knight Memorial Hockey Game at the Kenosha Ice Arena (7727 60th Ave, Kenosha, WI) on Saturday, November 26th, 2016. Doors open at 4:00 PM and the puck drops at 5:00 PM.

In the case that you cannot attend this event in person but still want to donate to this great cause, we ask that you do so here. Last year we donated $9,600 to the Development and Learn to Skate program at the Kenosha Ice Arena. For this year’s donations we will be sponsoring, in the Ryan Knight Memorial Funds name, one of the Kenosha Komets travel divisions for the 2017 – 2018 season.

There are four travel divisions for the Kenosha Komets – Squirts (9 & 10 year olds), Peewee (11 & 12 year olds), Bantam (13 & 14 year olds), and Midget’s (18 & Under). For this first year we will be sponsoring the Squirt division. Every year moving forward our plan would be to sponsor the next division up in age group. After we sponsor the Midgets for that corresponding year we would then go back to Squirts and start the cycle all over again.

With sponsoring a division in Ryan’s name this will help teams bring down their yearly dues which in turn will help families pay less for hockey each year. This is huge for families as a season can cost anywhere between $2,000 - $3,000 just for one player to be on the travel team. This does not include costs for lodging at hotels for tournaments, travel to tournaments, or equipment.
Along with sponsoring a team this year, a portion of the donations will go towards a new scoreboard for the Kenosha Ice Arena. This will also be in memory of Ryan.

Our overall goal in all of this is to continue to get the youth of Kenosha involved in hockey and stay involved. Hockey is a great sport! The life lessons and lifelong relationships that come out of the sport are irreplaceable. Anthony Ventura, Matt Smith, Celena Knight, and myself (Mitch Ferraro) have experienced this firsthand. Help us give other families that opportunity.

Event Details: Last year we held a jersey ceremony prior to the hockey game where we presented a memorial jersey to Ryan's father. This year, the Kenosha Komets will be retiring Ryan's number "24". Additionally, we ask that you donate $10 for a never-ending beer cup and $10 for pizza. We will also have fun events going on throughout the evening.

We will close the donations the evening of Monday, November 28th. We are very thankful for all donations and look forward to seeing you at the game.
