China Trip

My name is Taino Andino. I am a 8th grader at Wesley International Academy. I got accepted to go study in the 2017 Chinese Summer Program for a month, in Nan Jing, China. This program is so important to me because I applied 3 times. I finally got accepted on my third try. Going to China will allow me to get better in learning Chinese. We will be in class for three hours Monday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, we will travel to the different tourist attractions in China. I am looking forward to trying different types of food and climbing the Great Wall of China. Here are some more reasons I want to go to China. First, I want to learn about Chinese culture and become efficient in Chinese. Secondly, I am really excited about learning in a Chinese University setting.Third, I want to see the incredible site such as The Great Wall and the Terracotta Warriors. Fourth, I’ve read many articles that say China is overpopulated and has poor air quality. Many people say you should not believe what you read, so I want to see for myself. Lastly, I want to go to China because I know that I am responsible enough to travel to a foreign country and be away from home. I am also mature enough to live with a roommate and be independent. I will wake myself up, make sure my homework is done, and wash my own clothes. By you helping me fund this 2017 China Summer Program, you will help me grow as a person and improve in my studies. I have shown leadership skills during class, in my grade, and in school. I’ve been a member of Character Council for three years and work very hard to improve not just the school, but my community. I'm also a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where I participate in the ministry that feeds the hungry every Tuesday and Thursday morning during summers and school breaks. I also participate in the clean up program, Yo Boulevard at the Old Fourth Ward with councilman Kwanza Hall. More importantly, this China trip will allow me to be a better Chinese speaker. I noticed that the kids that went to China came back as better Chinese speakers. They were also more responsible and harder workers. I admire how they changed, so I want to have the same experience. As I have stated above, this is my third time applying for the China Summer Program and finally getting accepted. I believe this shows my commitment to this program, the school, and my learning. If I don't go I don't think I will have another great opportunity to go again. This program will allow me to have more confidence and will be a great transition from middle school to high school.Please consider donating as much or little that you can.
