My name is Abbey Arabie and I will be traveling to Uganda to volunteer with S.O.U.L. Foundation (supporting opportunities for Ugandans to learn). S.O.U.L. is located in Bujagali Falls, Uganda with a mission focused on education, women's empowerment, food security and health. Here I will reside for an estimated 2-6 months with a local family within the village and spend my days working hand-in-hand with their Ugandan Tailoring Group. Currently, the Tailoring Group consist of 150 women and the number only continues to grow as women from surrounding villages travel by foot for the opportunity to sustain their families basic needs.
The current programs are already producing yoga bags, purses, jewelry, and baskets. As a volunteer, my goal is to help the women develop a functional utilitarian product line that can be sold within their immediate community to build their local economy. To reach this goal I will apply my education and experience to teach these women sewing machine basics, pattern-making, up-cycling skills, and other creative design skills that will assist in reaching this self sufficiency.
It is my goal to raise the money for my volunteer program. I am in the need of $3,000 to cover transportation, living and medical expenses. Even $5 can help me reach this goal. This will give me the opportunity to learn the raw lifestyle as well as earn the trust needed to make an impact.
