Take a bite out of Atwood's vetbill

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Atwood and I am a five year old St. Bernard. My owner just surrendered me to Colorado Saint Bernard Rescue and I desperately need your help.

When I first met the Colorado Saint Bernard Rescue volunteer on Saturday, he noticed that my front left leg was swollen and I was in pain. He rushed me to a wonderful vet office called Mesa Veterinary Hospital. This nice vet named Dr. Nickerson quickly discovered that I had a high fever so she took my blood. Under the microscope, Dr. Nickerson could see that venom was attacking my red blood cells. She knew right away that I had been bitten by a rattlesnake. Since there was tissue damage at the site of the injury, they rushed me to a special place in the hospital where they cleaned up my leg and started me on Antivenom.

I have already received two vials of antivenom, intravenous fluid support, pain management, antibiotics, and I'm being monitored by all the wonderful vet techs. The doctors have talked to me about their concern about tissue damage, and I might have to wear a bandage on my leg for several weeks due to my skin starting to die off and slough.

The volunteers of CSBR (and Atwood!) are asking for your help. Antivenom costs over $500 per vial and, at this time, veterinary costs are estimated at $2000. That estimate does not include any costs that may arise if Atwood has to have his leg amputated.

Please help us help Atwood. He is a gentle soul that deserves a chance at a long, happy life.

Atwood and those of us at Colorado Saint Bernard Rescue thank you!
