Get Samson to Arizona

Samson has been in our family for six years - longer than we've even been a family! He's been accustomed to being top dog in the house. Well, we recently added a human to the family, and once the human started moving around, Sam started getting defensive of his position. When David (our son) crawls over to me and stands up, for example, if Sam is by me, Sam growls at him.
We've been trying for two months to find him a new home, and we actually did! He'd be going back to his home state of Arizona, with a colleague of my mom's who does fostering. (All of the rescues I chatted with in the Seattle area turned us away for various reasons).
Well, we are moving to southern California on Sunday. Sam was scheduled to fly to Phoenix the morning of 1/25. I dropped him off at Sea/Tac airport, got home about an hour later, and then shortly after got a call that Sam had escaped his kennel and that I needed to come back and get him!
His vet prescribed him a sedative, and we administered it, but even that wasn't enough. As soon as I left him at the facility, he tried escaping again, and the airline turned him down.
We just need to get Sam to Arizona, as soon as possible, really - by 1/28. I asked a friend of mine who is a pilot what it would take to get him a chartered flight, and he estimated about $5,000.
All additional money will go to Friends for Life Animal Rescue in Gilbert, AZ.
Samson has been a tremendous part of our family and it breaks my heart to be bringing him to a new home. But after consulting with trainers and watching our son, it's clear he can't stay in ours. It would break my heart even more to just bring him to a rescue or Animal Control.
I remembered hearing about the pit bull who attacked the 4-year-old who got a bunch of money for his legal defense. I just want to get our dog to his new home. It's just too much for us to pay fully out of pocket.
As an alternative, if someone is willing to do the drive so that he doesn't have to be crated, I'll figure that out too. We just can't ourselves, between the drive time and the moving time - it's not in the cards. :(
