Better Hearing for the Philippines

Hi all, I am a Melbourne-based audiologist working for a non-profit organisation that brings hearing awareness and best practices to a diverse range of people within the community. My role involves making a big difference to a variety of people whose livelihoods and relationships can improve simply when their hearing improves, or when someone cares about their hearing. A majority of my clients include people that are ineligible for medical benefits, or cannot afford a set of hearing aids that they most need. 

Thanks to a special invitation from the Visayas Hearing Centre in the Philippines, I now have the opportunity to bring my passion to those who do not have the same luxuries or comforts as we have here in Australia. This will include providing free  ear checks and hearing tests for 10, 000 children, consultation, counselling, and the provisioning of secondhand hearing aids.

This visit will also allow me to facilitate some professional development as I would love to attend the Global Hearing Health Conference that takes place between 23-25 October in Manila. 
 
To achieve this, I need to raise AUD$3000 over the next month. This money will be used to fund my airfares (I seek the lowest prices possible), and the conference fees. The money will also be used to cover costs of shipping hearing aids and hearing supplies to the Philippines from Australia. Any excess funds will be used to purchase new hearing equipment for the Visayas Hearing Centre. 

This means a lot to me as this simple service will enable many able-bodied and talented people to achieve their potential; once hindered simply because of their hearing. Early detection and intervention of children with underlying medical ear issues is crucial to give them the best start in life.
