Langley Hip Surgery

Donation protected

Hullo--

My name is Emryse Geye, and I have a wonderful dog named Langley.  (That's her on the right next to my cat.) She is a rescue dog that was picked up in Mexico, and adopted by my family in Arizona in November 2014. We have tried to give her the best possible life we could.

Last Thursday, July 28, Langley was run over by a car in front of my house. It was a terrifying thing to see happen. I thought she was going to die. I didn't know dogs can live through something like that.

She did live, but she's got a long road to recovery. She was scraped up pretty bad, and she did lose all the teeth on her bottom row, but the most serious injury is that of her hip. The impact of the car and the road displaced her hip, and while the vet was able to place it back in, it has now come out on it's own twice now, and the vet says that her leg will not stay in on its own. This is very painful for Langley, and is keeping her from walking or going about her daily life.

The next step is surgery. Langley will need to have something called an FHO (Femoral Head Osteotomy) which is where the ball of the femur is removed, because the femoral head can slip out of the joint, but the thinner neck of the femur has a better chance of staying in. After its removal, the muscles and scar tissue from the surgery form a false joint around the leg, keeping it in place. The sucess rate for this surgery is high, the recovery time is very low, amazingly, most dogs recover almost their entire activity levels, and the vet is very hopeful that Langley would do very well with this surgery.

The surgery itself will cost about $3000.

Unfortunately, I am in the process of moving to start my PhD in Portland, and my family is in the middle of moving to Germany for my father's next duty station. These moves were already in the works, and are already very expensive. The multiple visits to the vet to put this hip back in over and over again has already cost us about $1500, which is very difficult in this time of transition for myself and my entire family.

This is where you come in. I know that everyone has a lot going on, and many of you have never, and may never meet Langley. It can be hard to convince someone to donate to the care of a stranger's dog, or at least a dog they have never met. Even if you don't meet her, I think you should know that she is the kind of dog that is worth saving. She has had a rough life, but still, Langley is the sweetest dog--everyone who meets her says the same thing. She loves going to the dog park, and meeting other dogs, and snuggling with me at home.

It would mean the world to me (and to Langley,) if you would be willing to give something to her care. Our family takes the responsibility of owning pets very seriously, and we would never abandon our animals in their time of need. No one wants to see those that they love suffering. We are trying to do the right thing for Langley, we just need a little help caring for her.

All the money raised by this gofundme will go directly to paying for Langley's surgery, and her pre- and post- care. We hope to schedule this surgery as soon as next week.

Myself and my family will be so grateful for any help you can give, even if it is just sharing this post so that someone else might see it. I am happy to answer any questions you might have, and I will post updates as often as I can. Thank you so much for reading.
