Help Brian on his Road to Recovery

Donation protected
My sister and brother in law, Laura and Brian Webster are going through a really tough time right now. Brian is a diabetic and has been for over 20 years dating back to when he was in high school.  On April 16th, 2016 Brian went to the hospital after being sick the week before and made it just in time.  When he got there he was incoherent, his blood sugar levels were well above 600 and he had a horrible infection on his foot. They immediately put him in the ICU due to the infection and his elevated blood sugar levels.

While this was going on my sister, Laura was in Maryland helping to care for her mother in law who is recovering from her own surgery.  She rushed to get on the earliest flight out to go care for her husband, who could barely tell her what was going on. Her flight left on Sunday morning and she tried to keep in close contact with the hospital while making the long flights back to Arizona from Maryland.  While on the flight back, my mom got a call saying that Brian was being rushed into emergency surgery as well as being put on a ventilator because he started to have trouble breathing.

My sister had no idea this was going on as she was in mid air.  As soon as she landed, she got a call from the doctor letting her know everything that was happening. They discovered that he had a really septic infection in his blood due to the infection in his foot and the decision to amputate the foot was made.  Brian was still unconscious when my sister finally made it to be by his side.  They attempted to remove the ventilator on Monday but Brian was still in way to much pain and had to be sedated even more.  The doctors informed my sister that they were probably going to have to amputate his leg below the knee in about 4-5 days depending on the septic infection.  Thats the main concern right now because septic infection can spread and ultimately cause even more issues. Brian is on a constant insulin drip and they are not sure what other damage was caused from infections and high blood sugars.  Today, April 17th, Brian was able to be removed from the ventilator and able to be removed from sedation. He is still really out of it and trying to process the fact that he has lost his foot and will lose his leg.

The healing process won't even begin until the second surgery is completed.  The healing process as well as the rehab associated with learning to walk again and everything else involved will be very costly.  Brian was the only one working and since this has happened they have essentially lost that income. We are not sure when or if Brian will be able to return to work and Laura is currently looking for employment.

All of the funds raised will be used to help pay for Brian and Laura's essential bills, so they dont completely lose everything during these trying times.  My sister is the type of person that would give you the shirt off her back if she thought you needed it and this is one of the ways I know that I can help her and Brian.  Our family as well as Brians family is greatly appreciative for any and all donations made to help Laura and Brian on their long road to recovery.
