The Incest Survivors Association Inc (ISA) proudly traces its roots back to 1978‚ when Women´s Health Care House and Australian Women Against Rape (Perth) organised a publicised 24 hour ‘phone- in’ designed to give women who had been sexually assaulted an opportunity to speak about their experiences.  Of the 150 calls, more than half related to intra -familial sexual abuse.  The group of women who
headed up the phone call-in formed self-help and support groups after identifying that most of the women callers had been silenced and not supported by the people close to them.  Many callers were
profoundly depressed and had a mental health diagnosis.

ISA was formally incorporated in 1984 after obtaining a grant to provide services.  ISA was the first non-government association to deal specifically with child sexual abuse and associated post-traumatic stress disorders later in life.

In 1986 ISA was offered partial funding by the State Government to provide professional services to the community, recognising that the thousands of annual phone calls identified a large‚ hidden‚ community problem.  From this time onwards all staff had to have
tertiary qualifications and clinical supervision and the association has contractual accountability provisions to the State government.

Since then, ISA operated as a non-government, not-for-profit charity.  However, we have faced the ongoing challenge of limited funding, capacity and resources, which has meant we can only provide a part-time service to meet a great need in the community for specialised counselling support.

All funds will be used directly to assist ISA to support clients.

*$100 will provide a fully paid counselling session for an adult or child who may not otherwise be able to access our services

*$500 would see the update and purchase of much needed counselling resources

*$2,000 will help us upgrade our play therapy room for the children that engage with the service

* $6,000 would run a 'trauma sensitive' yoga program for clients to assist in their recovery journey and healing process

* $20,000 will see ISA upgrade infrastructure to better support all clients

*$50, 000 would help us to employ an additional counsellor so we could operate the service 5 days a week

Every little bit helps us to help the community in the provision of support to all those who have been impacted by Childhood Sexual Abuse.  Supporting someone who has experienced Childhood Sexual Abuse can prevent suicide and self-harm, can help them deal with their anxiety, assist them to remain in employment, can help them to have more meaningful relationships, and prevent the same thing happening to other children.

Thank you for reading our story and for contributing to our cause.
