Ecuador DM1 Earthquake Relief

On Saturday, April the 16th, Ecuador suffered a terrible earthquake that struck the north-west coast of Ecuador. So far the number of fatalities has reached 655, people missing amount to 41 and wounded to 17638 and rising. The country is currently in state of emergency. Lots of people have lost their loved ones, their homes and all their belongings; for people with diabetes this includes their medicines (insulin) and supplies, too.
In Ecuador, Manabi is one of the provinces with the highest incidence in diabetes and is also the most affected by the earthquake. This is why the FDJE (Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Ecuador) is looking to raise money to help people with diabetes who are in disaster áreas and have no Access to insulin and other supplies. The collected money will be used to purchase the following:
- Insulin
- Syringes to administer insulin.
- Alcohol
- Lancets
- Refrigerant Gel
- Test Strips
- Glucometers
- Thermal flex foam boxes or coolers to transport the insulin.
After collecting enough donations, these supplies will be sent to selected points of distribution in the disaster areas where people with diabetes can easily access and obtain supplies and medicines.

My name is Nicholas Flores, and I have been a volunteer for the FDJE for over 6 years. I live in the city of Chicago but constantly keep in contact with my fellow volunteers and the administrative team. All funds raised will be withdrawn by me and 100% of the donations we receive from GoFundMe through this campaign will be personally delivered to the FDJE for the appropriate management and resource distribution. GoFundMe charges 7.9% fee on the total sum we raise, plus $ 0.30 for each donation.
