Hello Everyone,
My name is Dale Coulombe, Vice President of the Curtis Marshall Memorial Skate Park Committee. This has been a 5 and a half year project for the memory of a fallen friend, now turned community project for the kids and families of the town of Peace River and surrounding area, bringing in a facility for community fun and interaction, at a low and effective facility cost. As many of you may or may not know, this summer we've started contruction on our in-ground concrete skate park. We have raised nearly $400,000 dollars already through volunteer work, grants, and donations from people and local companies in the area. The ground work and concrete work is going quickly and hope to be open and ready for use come September 2016!!! BUT, we have come across a small snag, as the Skate Park will be completed and usable for everyone, it will not quite be BEAUTIFUL. We will be $30,000 dollars short on funds needed for Landscaping, Lighting, and Signage which will complete the Skate Park, making it the greenspace it is designed to be! Trees, lawn, and shrubs, a beautiful plaza style look. To be enjoyed by the skateboarders and as well as the on-lookers. Providing shade, extra seating, and a peaceful, calming atmosphere for a comradely sporting spot such as a skatepark. If we could get this $30,000 by october, it would secure that these finishing touches would be done in a timely manner, that the park would be completely finished in the spring of 2017! (If 1500 people donated $20 each, we would reach our goal. think about it!) On a personal note, Curtis Marshall was a very close friend to me, a brother in every definition of the word, he was a genuine guy. He loved more people for who they were and for their strengths, never did he judge people squarely for their short comings, many people loved him, and he was a great loss to the community even for being so young. The world would be a much lovelier place if there were more people like him. We are so close to finishing this project, and it would really mean alot to me and to everybody involved in this project to have it completed this summer not just for our friend, but for our community. The kids and the people of Peace River deserve another beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors in town.
