Say Hello Kingston's Community fund

Donation protected
Say Hello Kingston is community initiative that aims to encourage locals and visitors of Kingston to "Say Hello", met new people and reach out the local community. I currently organise Brunches, dinners and coffee meet ups. Due to the interest we have had dog walks (paws to pavement), coffee catch ups, wine tastings, an Italian night, Trivia night, burgers and beers and more. I'm really trying to bring the community together and reduce social isolation.

I originally set this group up on Facebook as I was experiencing loneliness. I'd look out of the window seeing many people going for coffee and wonder why I had no one to estate a conversation with. I didn't think that many people would be interested. Since May I have set up over 25 events in the local area and approximately 10-12 people have shown up to each event. I've had an overwhelming response from people at events. People have thanked me and said that they've felt so isolated they have contemplated suicide. I've had people hug me, close to tear and say 'Thank you! I needed this" because there been so lonely. Sometimes all we need a friend and I didn't realise how widespread this issue is!

Everyone feels lonely from time to time, but long periods of loneliness or social isolation can have a negative impact on a persons mental health and can cause physical symptoms such as anxiety, lack of sleep, increased consumption of alcohol and decreased appetite. There has been a rise in the rate of suicide in Kingston and I really want to help bring the community together so that people do have the opportunity to make connections. I've found that when I make meaningful connections I feel a lot better. This issue is something I'm really passionate about stopping.

Loneliness can be overcome by many things including getting involved with the community, getting out and about and making new friends. Say Hello Kingston aims to do all of these things by helping people feel a part of the community, make new friends and getting out and about in Kingston.

Why do I need the money?
I'm currently paying for flyers, letters and more. The money will be used to is to promote the group locally. I have printed flyers (thousands), letters and bought a chalk board and sign all at my own cost. Interest is growing each day and I will use the money to continue to print flyers, get a marketing company involved and pay for website fees.

I am working with local businesses to offer a discount to 'Say Hello Kingston" members during events. We have also had interest from local members of parliament and the local government who gifted us Rugby tickets to give away recently. The lady from the radio station has been in touch and I need this money to kick it off and help it grow organically as I cannot fund it.

There are approximately 5000 people in the area with 3 high density apartment buildings opening before the end of the year. I'd really like to kick things off in a big way during winter the new people to the area can get involved.

I also have plans to extend this to other areas-But one thing at a time!
