WV Flood Fuel & Supply Fund

West Virginia experienced a 1000 year flood in June 2016. The devastation is unlike anything we’ve seen since President Lincoln made us a state in 1863.  Entire communities have been swept away and the disaster is of unimaginable proportions. Here in America we have people with children living in tents in the sweltering summer heat and humidity. Disaster recovery requires volunteers who donate time and energy in all aspects of rebuilding and recovery.  The massive displacement of entire families and the human suffering associated with homelessness has caused shortages and bottlenecking of everything from simple building materials all the way to basic necessities for day to day life. You have to understand that the stores and shops as well as schools, churches and post offices were not spared by this disaster.  Electricity, Gas, and Water services are offline in remote areas. Everybody was either directly affected or knows someone who is suffering.  FEMA and the Red Cross have unfortunately been woefully inadequate to end the human suffering in these areas that resemble a war zone. Our state has its own ‘Rainy Day Fund’ but refuses to release a dime of it for the recovery despite the pleas from those who are suffering. The politicians in Charleston seem unconcerned and only show up for photo opportunities.   It is up to us to aid those in need.

The people here and from all over the nation are doing the majority of the rescue and recovery. Many times what is critically needed is the logistical capability to transport supplies, material and people to a place and from a place. My personal story is like most people not directly affected by the floods.  My name is Tom Koenig and I was born and raised here. I was living in Florida watching all unfold on television.  I have van to transport anything from people to household goods and I have free time.  I don’t have the funding for fuel and upkeep on the vehicle like gasoline, oil and wearing out brake pads in these remote mountain passages. My goal is to donate my time for transporting whatever is needed in the Elk River Basin to speed the recovery effort and mitigate some of the suffering and misery of those caught in the wake of this devastating flood.  Self-funding was my method until my funds ran out. Your dollar will help someone get that one thing they need, one person at a time. If this fund is successful it's possible to expand into more drivers and vehicles. This could be the Uber of disaster recovery funded through caring people like you. Thank you. Radio Free ER (<<<Click and join)
