Rob's Transplant Fund

Donation protected
I am writing on behalf of our father, Rob. He is a very proud man that has worked extremely hard his entire life to provide for his family, and offer the best that he could at every turn. Having to ask for help is not his forte. He has donated a lot of money to community, charity and various causes in his lifetime, and now we ask for your help for him.

About 2 years ago, my Father started struggling with fatigue and loss of breath, and finding it difficult to walk the shortest of distances. Feeling good, with no sign of pain or heavy discomfort, it was quickly chalked up to natural aging,  and perhaps being a bit out of shape. It was shortly thereafter, this very special man in our lives came face to face with a harsh reality. A dedicated husband, father and grandfather was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis ("scarring of the lungs"). It is a respiratory disease, leading to serious breathing problems, and in my father’s case, a terminal diagnosis, if not treated with a necessary double-lung transplant.

Since his diagnosis, his life has drastically changed.  He has never expected more out of life than just being able to enjoy his time with his wife and family, that is all he ever worked for. But now, simple pleasures like going for dinner, enjoying a show or playing with his grandchildren are becoming impossible. Even the simplest activities that we all take for granted, like taking a shower or getting dressed can take everything out of him.

At this point, the transplant is the only option – and although a very trying and rigorous process physically, mentally and emotionally, my father has faced it head on like a champion, and remains hopeful that a donor will come available very soon.

We are simply posting this story in hopes that we may be able to offset some very high expenses for my Father, and allow him to focus whole-heartedly on the struggles he faces, and worry less about the financial burden.

Any funds raised will go to offsetting his costs for medical, travel and accommodations for preliminary hospital treatment and consultation at the Transplant Centre, and any necessary expenses associated with this process and the arduous recovery for several months post-surgery.

As a retired man, my father had set himself and my Mother up for a comfortable life together. Unfortunately, over the past few years, that retirement fund that was so diligently planned for so many years, has quickly dwindled with expense after expense, related to this horrible disease. No employment benefits, and he is ineligible to get medical insurance due to his condition, etc . . . the stresses are real and plentiful.

Anything would be appreciated to help them get through this difficult time - anything you can afford to donate ($5, $10 or whatever you can) is appreciated more than you can possibly know.

WE ALL THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
