Flowers over Guns

We have five senses.  All very powerful, feeding our emotions, behaviors and choices.  I have tasked myself with proactively interrupting publicly displayed violent images with simply... flowers.  

I am a Mom of two young children, and I try my best to create positive experiences for them, teaching them along the way.  Most times I have an answer, or at least an explanation for perplexing subjects.

Recently, they have been faced with the image attached to this story.  A giant gun seemingly pointed at them.  I didn't have an answer for why.  Yes, it's a movie poster and not a real gun.  I explained that no harm will come to them, but then I realized the harm was already done.  I gave that poster legitimacy by "explaining" the fear away.  

Mainstream images of guns are all too frequent, which is why I am asking for financial support in my campaign, "Flowers over Guns."  Our children should live in a world filled with kindness and beauty.  Our first "guerilla art installation" will take place this week.  We will interrupt  violent imagery with real flowers as well as paper flowers to cover the violent images.
