Welcome to Chris's Autism Safety Fund Page!! Chris is our sweet, loving 8 year old boy who was diagnosed with Autism at a young age. Christopher is also non-verbal. Like all parents, our main concerns for Chris are his safety, ability to communicate and his happiness. Unfortunately, as he gets older, much of his happiness depends on his ability to communicate and participate in activities outside of his home. While he is making strides with his therapies and current school placement, we are going to endure the cost of additional therapies and supports to continue to foster his growth in the very new future. We are reaching out to the community to humbly ask for any assistance to help us provide what our son needs for a bright and safe future. With the help that we receive we will be starting a fund for the following necessities:
- a service dog that will be trained to remain by Christopher's side at all times and be able to "catch" Chris if he ran away. This service dog would provide Chris with the freedom to participate in activities outside of his home and would provide us with a deeper sense of security when he is not with us. Cost of a service dog and family training: $20,000
-a communication device and applications to aid in the acceleration of his ability to communicate through a picture exchange system. An ipad solely used for communication would allow him to implement these programs, as well as use a device that is more socially appropriate than a PECS (picture exchange communication system) binder (book). Cost of the ipad and programs: $1000
- a more sophisticated tracking device that would enable us to track Chris wherever he goes on our mobile devices, it is waterproof, and it sets up perimeters that if crossed will send out an alert. Cost of the tracking device: $300
- a stroller designed for older children with special needs and that tend to elope (escape). This stroller would allow us to bring Chris places with the whole family and keep him safe while waiting in lines or manipulating through crowds: Cost of the stroller: $1000
- additional therapy...Chris receives home based ABA therapy and we are very grateful that insurance pays for some of that expense. Chris would without a doubt benefit from additional therapies that are not covered by insurance including PROMPT speech therapy, equine therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy. These additional therapies would foster Christopher's speech and language development.
This additional aid that we are asking for would make such a difference in what we could provide for our son to better his quality of life. His frustration would decrease with a better ability or tools to communicate more effectively. With the other supports we would be able to allow Chris to participate in activities that would foster his independence and help him become a more participatory member of our family. We cannot thank you enough for taking the time to read about our sweet Chris. Chris thanks you too!!!
