Elias Miller, Nicolas Sterner, and Andrew Heath began laying the foundations for a new orchestral ensemble based in Cambridge, MA in May of 2016. In the spirit of musical collaboration and entrepreneurship, our vision was to bring together students, amateurs, and young professionals, many of whom lack performance opportunities during the summer, and put on a professional-level concert.
We are so excited to announce that our concert will be on August 7th @ 3:00PM in Harvard University’s magnificent Paine Hall. We will be performing the overture from Mozart’s Magic Flute, Sibelius’ King Christian II Suite, and Copland’s Appalachian Spring conducted by Elias Miller and performed by the Harvard Summer Chamber Orchestra.
Starting this project with an essentially non-existent budget, we have run up against some significant monetary challenges. We acknowledge that we can only fund this performance with your help. We are raising money in order to cover the costs of sheet music purchase, rehearsal space rental, concert hall rental, and instrument rental.
It has been extremely ambitious for us to create and organize an ensemble of this size and caliber at such low cost. Our orchestra is made up of supremely talented musicians who have all agreed to volunteer their time and abilities for free. This, as well as our luck in finding low-cost and even free rehearsal spaces, has helped make our associated costs a fraction of the average needed to produce a performance of this scale.
Friends, family, community members, and generous music-lovers at-large - we extend our heartfelt gratitude and thanks for any contributions you are willing and able to make towards our music making process! We will send a personal note of thanks, and hope to meet you at our final concert.
