Anne's Road to Recovery
Hi Everyone -
You may know me from work, business networking, or just through Social Media. In 2010 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, went through all the treatment and surgeries and was clear of all cancer then. Woo hoo !! I thought.
More recently in March, I had an incident where I had a muscle spasm in my neck due to a quick movement. I had what my doctor referred to as an animated deformity. The reconstruction of my original surgery started to painfully slip and move and visually become unsightly.
Last May (2015) I moved to New Mexico after finding a contract job as a Project Manager for a pharmaceutical company. I've been there full time since December 2015. Currently, I'm on medical leave. The healthcare in NM was not helpful so in April I travelled to the Mayo in Arizona -- all specialists in one place.
I made arrangements for surgery the first week of June. Turns out the surgery that should have been a fairly simple corrective pne has turned out to be 3 surgeries, a blood clot and bacterial infection. I still have to watch the infection and as the doctor said, "we'll see what are our next steps are."
Why I'm doing this fundraising is that I desperately do not want to have the financial devestation that I experienced in 2010 through 2015. It honestly took me until this job to finally get back on my feet. I'm tough on the outside and think I can handle it, but the out of pocket expenses for deductibles, paying for traveling by car betweem Arizona and New Mexico (flying people to drive me - once last minute), specialty clothing, and a full time caregiver during the nights following surgery. has taken a toll on me – not only financially but emotionally.
The first month after the initial surgery a friend helped me and I was heartbroken when I realized he almost missed his commission quota at work because he was so busy helping me. I don't want to be that much of a burden on anyone personally.
I have one more surgery, which is the one I came here for. My doctor said she wants to wait ideally 3 months to make sure the infection is clear, so that timetable will make an significant financial impact.
I am very grateful for your generosity.
All my best, Anne
