In memory of: Francis Scopas

Dear friends,

You will all be aware of the tragic loss of our friend and colleague, Francis Scopas, a dedicated operational and logistical assistant who was killed in the violence in Juba, South Sudan, on Friday 8th July. Francis was 50 years old and leaves behind a wife and four children under the age of nine.

Francis was a calm and quietly spoken man and would always go the extra mile to help people out. Whenever new consultants arrived into South Sudan for the first time (a daunting experience), it was often Francis who met them on arrival – his warmth and friendly manner always put people at ease, and this reassurance was often commented on.

South Sudan continues to be troubled by political and economic uncertainty, but the work that Adam Smith International has been doing there, of which Francis was an integral part, is having an impact and making a difference. This tragic event only strengthens our resolve to continue to support South Sudan’s development. It is the least we can do to preserve Francis’ memory and help the country he so dearly loved.

Francis was a valued member of our team and as a means of providing support to Francis’ family, we have set up this online collection fund.

Thank you in advance for your generous support.
