Help Divina Study Abroad in Brasil

Hunter's Brazil Study Abroad Program

As a History major, I believe that one of the most beneficial ways to learn and appreciate a country's history is to experience it firsthand.

Being able to visit Brazil's colonial capital, Salvador in Bahia, would be an incredible way to experience the country's rich culture and history. This will not only help me reach my goal of attaining my Bachelor's degree in History, but will also help solidify my ability to speak the language and truly understand the events, celebrations and difficulties of the country. There is so much more to Brazil than carnival and soccer and I hope that I can truly come away from that experience with a better understanding of what makes this place so special.

I am first generation Latina college student living in the Bronx and attending Bronx Community College. I am the History tutor at my college and I maintain a minimum GPA of 3.8 in order to keep my place on the Presidents list. I have invested my time learning Portuguese and I will be continuing my studies at Hunter college in the Spring of 2017 to pursue my Bachelors in History and then my PhD in Brazilian History and Politics.

I would love to have this dream of studying in this magnificent country become a reality and I turn to this fundraiser to help me realize a goal that would be otherwise be unattainable to me financially.

The link to the course is provided at the top of this description as well as the course syllabus and the breakdown of payments and funds needed in order to participate in the program.

After my costs are covered I will donate all of the remaining contributions to  Instituto Cultural Steve Biko Charity.

The Instituto Cultural Steve Biko, nonprofit founded in July 31, 1992 with the mission of promoting the social rise of the black population through education and redemption of their ancestral values. Over the years the Biko, as it is affectionately called by his colleagues, has been, actively, through their actions promoting the integration of qualified black youth, especially in education, more than 800 students already enrolled in higher education.
