Every Empty Bottle Has It's Story

My name is Kimberly Korobanik and I am a recent BBSS graduate living in Redditt, ON, a nice 15 minute drive north of Kenora. I am reaching out to you today for some help and support for the Redditt Bottle House, a key staple in our small community.

My great grandparents Hank and Myrtle Deverall built the Bottle House in 1973 and it became an instant tourist attraction, with thousands of visitors over the years. Encouraged by the popularity of the house, they built the Wishing Well (‘74), Windmill (‘75), The Home of the Three Bears (‘76), and The Castle of the Elves (‘79) in the years that followed. In a combined total, over 25,000 bottles, 1,700 pounds of mortar, and 1,756 hours of labour went into these five creations. Since then, it has always relied on the generous donations from visitors towards upkeep, maintenance, and repairs, including the rebuilding of 4/5 of the creations. After 43 years, the Bottle House is the only original building still standing and it needs your help!

After both Myrtle and Hank passed, my mother Sandy took over looking after it as well as the Caboose (A museum showcasing our town's history) in Redditt. After walking across the stage this year and 788 volunteer hours under my belt, I am diligently helping my mother with these projects. It is a labour of love to me and benefits the town as well.

This year, the Bottle House is in great need of a new roof and other repairs, however in order to do so, we need donations to be able to afford these repairs. In regards to the Caboose, repairs including repainting the interior and exterior, adding new exhibits, etc. As a result, I have decided to create a platform for people to donate to this cause, as well as do guided tours of both attractions along with a friend to raise money for the Bottle House and Caboose.

We really need support from both the community and our visitors, as well as even past, present, and future visitors. Overall, we are just trying to generate revenue to be able to afford these repairs. The Bottle House and Caboose are key pillars in our small community of Redditt and we desperately want to keep them standing and popular amongst visitors to the area for many years to come. I really hope that you can help in some way, big or small as I would graciously appreciate it!!
