Dear Friends Who Seek Justice & Care for Our Earth,
I've been elected from Oregon's 1st Congressional District as a National Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia voting for Bernie Sanders coming up July 24th. I am humbled and honored to represent others in the 99% who have struggled, marched, & testified beside me to stop the LNG pipelines and terminals from destroying our precious salmon runs and save what is left of our planet's fragile atmosphere!
A Democrat for 42 years, I am still working to create a cleaner, greener DEM Platform which bans fracking and LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) development. I have also sent my Plank for an end to Prosecutorial Misconduct with oversight from an independent Ombudsperson and an "Innocence, Truth, & Reconciliation Commission" (similar to South Africa's). Our presence in Philadelphia to vote for Bernie and our shared values is critical to the future!
Though we four CD 1 delegates are sharing a room to save hotel costs and will buy healthy groceries together to cut down on costs of restaurant meals, we still have hefty flight and "security" shuttle transport costs, as well. We are required to be credentialled each morning at 7 AM sharp at the required hotel 30 miles from the Convention Center or NOT be able to vote that day. I would have stayed with Quaker Friends, in their homes closer to the Convention otherwise, and saved more $.
Sweet friends have been tapped out already as we have sold Bernie buttons and stickers, held a benefit concert and auction, and joined a flea market and a garage sale to raise money thus far. Now I am down to the wire and still need about $1,500.00 to cover the rest before July 20th.
I literally try to walk my talk. I was a science teacher for years, but I'm currently only working part-time as a political canvasser/ neighborhood organizer for an environmental group, Hillsboro Air & Water, at minimun wage and eating out of our home's organic garden. I am not independently wealthy and have not been able to do this alone; I believe that together every little bit helps and we CAN get the job done to reach any goal!
Please offer what you feel you can afford for the sake of Bernie Sanders! We need him and all that he stands for in this nation right now. I will vote for him, for you, for us all!
