YOU HAVE THE POWER TO HELP WORK A MIRACLE!!
Here on the tiny island of Dominica in the Lesser Antilles there is a bright, energetic,
ambitious young man who has been trapped in a wheel chair since he suffered a
tragic accident at the age of fourteen. As the result of a malicious act by an unknown
assailant, Dione Green suffered first, second and third degree burns over a
substantial portion of his body, with the worst to his legs.
With the limited resources available, Dione received treatment in Dominica, but the
damage was so severe healing was slow and infection persistent. An uncle visiting
from Canada saw Dione’s desperate condition and helped raise enough money to
send him to the US for treatment. While there, they attempted to heal the infection
and reconstruct his legs but finally had to amputate both legs above the knee in order
to save his life. He could have been fitted with prosthesis, but his visa ran out and he
had to return to Dominica. He kept hoping to be able to get back but the money was
just not available.
Now Dione is thirty-one, active volunteer in the Dominica Association of Disabled Persons.
One day Marcella contact him so, Dione is able to dream once again to be able to raise the money and take advantage of a program KWA (Keep Walking Association) founded by three disabled young men in France to help other disabled people from small countries in the Lesser Antilles. They have already started to equip 17 Dominicans with amputated legs in less than one year and they also trained two local’s to make prosthetics legs and maintain them so amputees will be able to walk again.
The artificial limbs, physical therapy and rehabilitation would normally cost upward 45,000 Euros but with the help of KWA and Ortopedic Bontoux the cost has been reduced to 20,000 Euros which would enable Dione to travel to France get his legs and spend 3 months in therapy needed to learn how to walk again.
WE WANT TO MAKE A MIRACLE HAPPEN BY THIS CHRISTMAS. HELP US RAISE 20,000 EUROS SO DIONE WILL BE ABLE TO STAND UP AND WALK AGAIN.
