Hi everyone – for those of you who may read this post outside of my own connections I am going to tell you a bit about my cancer journey ………….
My name is Karen White (Prior) I am 50, I was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal colon cancer in June 2014. I am a single mum to my beautiful children my daughter 21 and Jack 20 who are both at university.
I have had chemo on and off for the past two and half years alongside several surgeries here in a UK hospital that include a bowel resection that left me with a stoma bag, liver resection, radio embolization, reversal of stoma bag and a hernia repair. After a gruelling two and half years I was finally told in March 2016 that after one more surgery I would be cancer free. We were so happy and felt like we were finally seeing light after being in a very dark tunnel. Unfortunately this was not the case, I had to have a PET scan in April 2016 before my operation and this is when they discovered that the cancer had spread to my bones.
We were devastated, our lives were shattered that day on hearing the news that I had 6 months to live even if I had more chemo. My only option here in the UK was palliative care chemo. I felt I had no choice and through fear I started treatment. Meantime we researched other clinics and I went to Germany on a recommendation for TACE treatment on my liver. I also met a Professor there that can treat me but it is only life prolonging whereas the Hallwang clinic in Germany can actually get me into remission with the cutting edge treatment they have available.
I have been offered no hope here in the UK and I know of others that have travelled to this clinic and it has saved their lives. I am fundraising to enable me to get access to this treatment in Germany that is not available in the UK and could save my life.
This is where you can help. I have run out of funds to get me to the Hallwang clinic and I am pleading now for my family and friends to help me raise the crucial funds to help save my life. The approx cost for the clinic is £200,000. I am trying to recruit a team of people willing to commit to helping me with the fundraising. I have a friend who has lots of fundraising ideas and has agreed to produce the marketing information for the events. She is also willing to co-ordinate it all so all I would need is commitment that you can help me raise money through your own network of friends, family and other connections. It sounds like a colossal amount of money but if the target is shared amongst a lot of people anything is possible.
I was told months ago that I would die and I am still here fighting this disease and hoping that I can raise these critical funds to get me to the Hallwang clinic in Germany.
We have funded the treatment so far ourselves and I am so sorry to have to ask this but I am desperate and time is running out for me and my children. I've been following Karen's story for a while now. Karen is fighting cancer and is doing everything she can to save her life. Karen travelled to Germany and at the moment this is giving Karen hope! Karen has worked with both of my children at Belmore primary school. Both of my girls loved her.. We used to then have to go into to tescos just so we could see her again.. I think we should all give as much as we can afford to help Karen and her family raise as much money as we can. Karen starts treatment in Germany in 2 weeks and I feel if we can donate some money towards this treatment it will take a big strain of Karen and her family. Karen will need to pay up to £30.000 for her treatment in total. Not only is she worrying where she is gonna get the money to find this she also has 2 children to support. Please please help Karen
