Maddie's Service Trip to India

Donation protected
Over the course of the 2014-2015 school year, I was involved in a project with my high school to raise $10,000 to build a school in India. Even though there
were many times we were unsure we could do it, not only did we reach our goal--we exceeded it and raised over $11,000. Throughout this process I learned so much about India, their culture, and their needs. 268 million people in India cannot read or write, 26% of men and 54% of women, and as an aspiring teacher, that breaks my heart.
Free the Children, the organization we worked with to build the school, not only provides opportunities to raise money for these projects all over the world, they also give students the opportunities to go to these locations and actually build schools, health clinics, wells, and more, all while learning more about the culture and developing leadership skills. In fact, the founder of Free the Children, Craig Kielburger, went on a trip to India last summer and was a part of building the school that we funded, and he made Kamiak High School a thank you video:

I have been given an opportunity to travel to India in July 2017. On this trip, I will be working on building schools as well as working with women empowerment groups in India. The trip cost is $5,500. I have been saving money since last summer and have been selling rafiki bracelets, and plan on having more fundraisers between now and next July. This trip means so much to me, and it would mean the world if you would partner with me in making this dream a reality.
When raising money to build the school, we cherished every donation--whether it was 25 cents or $50. When thousands of people chose to believe in our cause and contributed small donations, it quickly added up to over $11,100, and a new school house stands in India because of it. I am going about fundraising for ths trip in a similar fashion. Even if you can only contribute $5, it would mean so much to me.
It is hard to put how passionate I am about this into words, but if you have read to the end, thank you. I really, really believe in this cause, and hope you will partner with me to make my dream into a reality. If you have any questions about Free the Children or even about India, I would be more than happy to answer them--don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you in advance,
Maddie Bogart
