Education for Sangavi

J sangavi is an aspiring young woman who has just completed her twelfth standard in Government Higher Secondary School, Poolangulam, Trinelveli, India. Her father works in a teashop and her mother has mental health issues and is a housewife.  She has four siblings with two younger brothers and two younger sisters.  J Sangavi is a school topper and has scored 1149/1200 and her marks are as follows: Tamil 190/200, English 176/200, Maths 194/200, Chemistry 200/200, Physics 193/200, Biology 196/200.  She went for counselling and has secured a place in a private medical college (Tagore Medical College, Chennai) and the reduced fee per year is Rs 800,000. It has been a dream of her to become a doctor since childhood. Despite the struggle at home with low income and poverty, she has managed to get an outstanding results. Imagine if she had all the facilities at home just like most of us, I think she would have easily been a state rank holder.

 With seven people to feed, her fathers’ income will not be enough to support her education.

 Under no circumstances, money should be a deciding factor of one’s education.  Unfortunately that is the current situation.
