At Families for Justice as Healing (FJAH) we organize formerly incarcerated women to join the movement toward ending incarceration of women. Our membership advocates for community wellness and rejects the current U.S. drug policies that prioritize criminalization and incarceration.
FJAH members recently launched the National Council for Currently and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls. The Council is the first nationwide body of women organizing with each other from within and outside prison. Thousands of formerly incarcerated women and girls have participated in organizing meetings and strategy sessions toward the goal of building a new and just system grounded in human rights.
If we’re serious about eradicating drug related illness, crime and violence we must commit to the evidence based solutions that address poverty, addiction and trauma. Currently and formerly incarcerated women are the experts and must lead the way. The motto of the Council is "nothing about us without us."
Showing up for Racial Justice Boston are allies of Families for Justice as Healing and we're committed to raising $5,000 for general operating costs as well as Council costs. This includes travel, lodging, and other expenses so that Council members can host, facilitate, present, attend gatherings and events around the country toward the goal of fundamentally changing the justice system.
To help us reach this goal, Olio Boston is throwing a Liberation Kitchen Fundraising Dinner! It's a FOUR COURSE MEAL cooked by local radical chefs.
