BERNING Delegate needs help for DNC

As an elected Delegate for District 3 in Maryland, I ask for your support to attend the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, July 25 - 29.
I am a Special Education Advocate, fighting for the rights of families with children who have special needs. I have been working in this field since my own daughter began to struggle fifteen years ago. At that time, unaided and at a loss as to who to turn to or where to go, it was painfully clear that there was a great need in this area for less fortunate parents like myself to receive guidance.
For that reason, and through the intense multi-faceted education I pursued over many, many years, I now assist families in need to help their children receive the meaningful educations they deserve. As a parent, paying for these three-pronged services is a very expensive undertaking; I know it is something I could never have afforded myself. Therefore, having learned the hard way how devastating it is, I work free of charge.
My passion to help others, to do the right thing, and to fight for better legislation at the federal, state, county, and local levels, has naturally led to an affinity towards Bernie Sanders and his character, values, and campaign platform. I have been a fan for years, ever since first seeing him discuss his views on The Stephen Colbert Show!
I submitted my application to be a delegate, and was elected to represent my district in Maryland at the DNC in Philadelphia. The prospect of promoting Bernie and his ideals to our broken and bruised political system was thrilling. Shortly after receiving the news that we would be going to Philadelphia, we delegates were informed that the entire Maryland delegation will be required to stay at a specific, expensive hotel charging an exorbitant rate for the week.
Our individual cost for the trip has been estimated at $4000, to be paid personally by each delegate. This was an unexpected development, a shock to say the least. Given my chosen profession, helping those in need without pay, I will be unable to pay for this trip without assistance.
It is extremely important that Bernie has every delegate on the convention floor, fighting for the elements of his platform that we all treasure. If I can't go, that is one less delegate vote in his favor. I am hoping that you can find it in your heart to help me get to Philadelphia to make sure the Democratic Party will take the progressive plan that Bernie has so eloquently espoused into their platform for years to come.
This is my Dad on his 98th birthday. He is sitting by the woodstove in the kitchen of our family's farmhouse. Through good fiscal management, frugal living, and the programs of the New Deal provided by FDR, Dad and Mom enjoyed a quiet retirement in the rural Upstate New York countryside. Programs such as Social Security and Medicare are what kept their generation going strong as they aged. Dad missed his centennial birthday this year. If he were alive, that old Republican would probably be supporting Bernie right along with me!
Being "of a certain age," selfies aren't my thing. I don't really have pictures of myself much at all, so here is one of my sweet daughter, Megan, taken last summer, up at the farm with the kitten, "Bob" . . .
. . . and one from last fall at St. Mary's College of Maryland, where she is now a senior, studying Environmental Science. She's there for you, Bernie!
