Save Stella's Leg

Donation protected
Hello humans,

My name is Stella. I am a four year old Frug (that’s a pug/French bulldog mix if you didn’t know). I’m a sweet, happy and cuddly dog with a lot of energy and a big heart. I love my human family, especially the little one who's a picky eater and gives me all her leftovers. People say I’m chocked full of personality and everyone knows me as the little dog who jumps in the window. Unfortunately, I had an accident and am at the doctor’s office. I have made it through the first surgery but there is still more to come. I’ll pass it off to my mom and dad to fill you in on the rest.

Love and Kisses,

Stella (AKA: Pugsly)

Friends and Family,

On Tuesday June 21, Stella got loose and was hit by a car on Parkdale Ave near the Civic Hospital. Scared and unsure of where she was, Stella ran off and hid a few blocks away. Thanks to the folks on the Ottawa valley lost pet network facebook group, we found Stella later that afternoon and took her to the vet. Without their help we may never have found her. You people (you know who you are) have done a lot for us and we thank you.

We were initially relieved to hear that it was just her femur that was broken. X-rays showed no other signs of injury. We decided that we would perform expensive orthopedic surgery on Stella in hopes of saving her leg. However, when we took her to the animal hospital for the procedure we discovered that her injuries were more severe. In addition to some hemorrhaging, her abdomen is ruptured and her intestines have begun to enter her chest cavity, putting pressure on her already bruised lungs. The discovery of these other injuries has significantly added to her medical expenses.

After a lot of shopping around we found the Centre DMV vet clinic in Montreal. The people there have been very accommodating and have helped to keep the costs down as much as they can. As Stella mentioned above, she has already gone through the first procedure and things went well. The crucial procedures she requires and the care she has already received is going to cost us almost $6,000. We are committed to making sure that Stella will be around for many years to come and we are going to pay this amount ourselves.

What we are asking for is for any contributions towards saving her leg. Our original plan was to for Stella to regain full use of her leg after the accident. The discovery of her additional injuries has made undertaking this expense very difficult for us. The additional costs are approximately $2,000 on top of the amount listed above. The doctor assures us that the injury to her leg, while severe, is very fixable.
