My name is Manuel “Manny” Corral and I live in East Los Angles, California. I have the honor, privilege and responsibility of representing Congressional District 40 for Bernie Sanders.
Here's My Story
This is were I tell you about myself so that you will want to support me. The problem is I am horrible at selling myself. So I asked one question, who am I ? My answer is this: I’m just a guy who cares. In almost everything I do there’s some sort of purpose to helping others. I am extremely fortunate to have been raised with great principles and ideals. One of which is to “take care of those who have difficulty caring for themselves”.
For the past 9.5 years I have worked for Orange County Social Services. I first started with the county working as Night Counselor at Orangewood Children’s Home, a 24-hour emergency facility for children. I worked directly with children who were coming from tremendously difficult circumstances in which there are no other places for them to go. This was a great transition from working as substance abuse counselor because as a counselor I would help my clients, or parents, achieve goals to help re-unify them with their children. Although that is on longer my current position I am able to help out during the times when the need arises. Now I work directly with some of the most impoverished residents of Orange County.
I help people apply and receive Medi-Cal and Food Stamps benefits. This enables them to get medical care they need and means to buy food.
This is all accomplished while working through the pressure of significant staff shortages and constant changes from management. Not only do I help the residents of Orange County but I also help my fellow co-workers. I am an active member in my union where I serve as steward and executive board member/ treasurer. I work very hard to help and protect my co-workers rights as employees. As workers we are also in a constant struggle to get the respect we deserve for all of our hard work. I travel 56 miles everyday from East Los Angles to Orange County because I can’t afford to live in Orange County. Why do I do this? I do this because I care. I care about my clients, I care about my workers and I care about improving the lives of everybody.
Everyday I see and hear the struggles of people just trying to make ends meet. Everyday I get a glimpse into people's lives where I can see how far they have to go before they can get to a place where their health and well being are secured. For a great deal of these people I see no end in sight. This is why I am going to Philadelphia. This is what motivates me. These are the people that need to be represented and heard. These are the people that, if WE allow, will continue to be marginalized and diminished. These are the people I have dedicated myself to serve and defend.

Airfare to Philadelphia: $400-900
Hotel for 4 Nights: $2,600*
Food & Incidentals: $450+
Statewide Delegate Meeting: $150+
Total Cost: $3,600-$4,100
