Help me attend the DNC Convention

Donation protected
Hello!

My name is Teresa Gallegos. I am 28 years old, I am from Southwest Virginia, and I moved to Arkansas one year ago. I had a very difficult time working up the courage to create this donation page. I find joy and gain energy from helping others. This is why I graduated from Virginia Tech (university motto: Ut Prosim - that I may serve) and majored in hospitality and tourism management. After graduation, I started my career as an academic conference registration and event coordinator. For the past two years, I have been the business manager for a national hospitality public relations company. I volunteer for a local farmers market and a food pantry/food backpack program for children. I spend most of my waking hours helping others in my career and volunteer work. I wouldn't have it any other way! I am passionate about providing exceptional service and help. Therefore, I feel very odd asking for donations or gifts. However, my friends and fellow delegates assure me that it is okay to ask for help sometimes! So, here is why I would greatly appreciate any amount of help that you would be able to give....

For the past ten years, I have always showed up to the polls on Election Day and voted. That was the extent of my political participation. However, last year one of my friends (Fenzel!) introduced me to Senator Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign. Bernie is the first political candidate that I have ever personally identified with. He does not work for the corporations, millionaires and billionaires. He wants to work for me. Wow!

For the first time in my life, I felt inspired to donate $20 to a political campaign. I moved from Virginia to Arkansas, and discovered a local volunteer group. I felt shy and nervous when I went to my first meeting this past January, but I went back to the next meeting. I was terrified of phone banking (calling registered voters and asking who they plan to vote for), but I did it anyway. I was even more afraid of canvassing my local neighborhoods, but I did it anyway. I kept doing it. I started spending my evenings and weekends phone banking, behind-the-scenes clicking to connect phone banking calls, canvassing, attending Honk for Bernie rallies, campaign marches and rallies in Little Rock and Fayetteville, holding campaign signs at the local polling place on Super Tuesday. Eventually, my volunteer group leaders encouraged me to campaign for our congressional district pledged delegate position. Me?! Campaign?! Delegate?! What?! Well, I had been terrified and done everything else, so why not try?

I was elected as a pledged delegate for Bernie Sanders to represent Arkansas Congressional District Three at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. The photo on this page shows all of my voters! I am so grateful and honored. I would have never imagined that I could have the opportunity to participate in history and make a difference on this level!

I recognize that the word "I" has been used frequently in this fundraising description. However, none of this is for my sole benefit. My time and dedication has been in support of all of us! Our future, our children and grandchildren, our environment, our education, our healthcare, our jobs, our rights, our freedom. While at the convention, I will not only be voting for Bernie to be the Democratic  presidential nominee. I will also be participating in caucuses to vote on various issues for the Democratic Party's platform for the next four years. I will be attending workshops, trainings and seminars on how to effectively change the political landscape at the local, state and national level. I'll bring the knowledge and skills back to my community. We will work together to positively change society.

Therefore, I would greatly appreciate any help that you are able to provide for my travel, lodging and food expenses for my six day trip to Philadelphia from Arkansas for the convention. If you are unable to contribute monetarily, I would also benefit from all positive thoughts and good vibes you could send my way! Thank you for your time spent reading my story.

Bernie's average campaign donation was $27.
