In the past, I have contributed to countless “Go Fund Me” pages never considering it would ever be me seeking help for an incredibly loved family member.
For those of you who know my Auntie Sheila, more words need not be spoken. For those of you who do not, I can only say you have been deprived not only of knowing her, but loving her.
She has been stricken with this dreadful disease known as Alzheimer’s for which there is currently no cure.
My mother, her sister, has been her primary care giver for the past several years. Coming from a large family and only receiving help from one other sibling as the rest of their siblings reside in Ireland.
Our plea is to help my mom refrain from placing her sister in a nursing home which she unambiguously refuses to do.
The fear with Kathleen, my mother, being the sole care provider 90% of the time is the safety and quality of both their lives which are being compromised.
If I may quote my mom, “She is my life! And if the tables were turned, she would be taking care of me and never put me in a home.” The thought of leaving her in a home is devastating to say the least.
Unforgivingly, our government does not help people who have worked hard all their lives, people who have so generously given to and cared for others.
We are asking for assistance to help provide my mom the funds to keep her sister, our most loving and selfless Aunt, home with her for as long as physically possible.
My mom is not aware that I am posting this. The physical demands on her are rapidly increasing as are our concerns regarding her health and well-being.
