For Karen & Brian-NC flood victims

Sometimes you meet people that you just connect with – they are down to earth, compassionate, smart and above all, nice. Sometimes you meet these people when they are at the bottom and you wonder how they can still be all of these things. When Karen and Brian, called to get help to rescue their goats, I had no idea that would be the start of a friendship. These wonderful people have spent years rescuing special needs farm animals and they were able to move almost all of them before the flood waters rose. When they ran out of time, they threw together platforms on their kitchen counters and move their goats onto these. Their ingenuity saved their herd and we were able to move them to higher ground until the flood waters receded. But Karen and Brian lost everything – their clothes, their home, their possessions. When I ask Karen what she needs, she says nothing. And I ask her every single day. Today, she said “maybe a pillow?” We can do better than that, though, right? They are currently staying in a human shelter and while they have food and some donated clothing, I know they have bills due. Even if we can’t do much, if we can give them just a little bit to pay some of their bills until the can catch their breath, it would mean so much. And she would kill me if she knew I was doing this.
