My name is Andrew Frania. I volunteered to aid the refugees this past winter on the Greek islands of Lesvos, Samos, and Kos. This summer I will be returning on June 8th to Greece to continue volunteering. I will primarily be volunteering with the vounteers on the island of Samos, Greece. If the situation changes then I can also forsee myslef volunteering on mainland with another organinzaion I volunteered with last time, A Drop in the Ocean.
Most of my work I will be doing in Greece will be with the refugees that are "stuck" in Greece due to the Turkey/EU sanctions. Most of my volunteer work will be managing the warehouse long-term or working with other volunteers and organizations to meet the needs of the refugees.
All donations will be used to help fund the trip, make purchases for refugee needs, and help fund other volunteer needs in the field. Most of the volunteers aiding the refugee crisis must cover their own flights, meals, vehicles, and lodging at their own expense.
I used GoFundMe this past winter to help fund my volunteer trip and was immensely touched and amazed to see how many people contributed. Sometimes there were days that was intensely difficult and it felt that it was us volunteers against the world. When donations came in it was a huge weight off my shoulders. Each donation helped me regain my faith in humanity as well as amazed the refugees and volunteers alike that there are others out there helping and caring.
