He Named Me Malala Screening Fund

Donation protected

Thank you for visiting our fundraising site! We have set up this page for those who have been asking if there is a place to donate if they are unable to attend the screening. The mission of this fundraiser is to raise money to be donated to either the Downtown Los Angeles Women's Shelter or The Malala Fund (please specify with your contribution).

PWHS and JMHS Girls Learn International Chapters have been working this semester toward furthering our understanding of human rights, young peoples' rights, and girls' rights. "Girls Learn International (GLI) educates and energizes U.S. students in the global movement for girls’ access to education. The GLI Program supports the empowerment of U.S. students as they discover that through their own creative initiatives, dedication, and passionate leadership, they can create real solutions that address the obstacles facing girls and women here and around the world. Student-to-student, and student-to-parent, GLI is building a movement of informed advocates for universal girls’ education and a new generation of leaders and activists for social change."

We are screening the film "He Named Me Malala" because we feel that it shares an important message and speaks a truth that many of us, living in Los Angeles, would not have heard otherwise.

“"He Named Me Malala" is an intimate portrait of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai, who was targeted by the Taliban and severely wounded by a gunshot when returning home on her school bus in Pakistan’s Swat Valley. The then 15-year-old was singled out, along with her father, for advocating for girls’ education, and the attack on her sparked an outcry from supporters around the world. She miraculously survived and is now a leading campaigner for girls’ education globally as co-founder of the Malala Fund.”

Please donate as much or as little as you feel comfortable with, anything is very much appreciated.

Sincerely,
Pasadena Waldorf High School and John Marshall High School students of GLI
