Organic medicines, Peruvian Amazon

Kapitari is an organic, sustainable farm and medicinal research facility owned and operated by a 68 year old Peruvian native Don Lucho (Luis Culquiton) and his family. The mission at Kapitari is to maintain organic biodiversity in their relationship with their crops and medicinal plants , and to keep the soil replenishing it's
nutrients without the use of chemical additives. Kapitari is currently constructing a laboratory to research
 and extract medicinal properties from plants sourced from the Amazon jungle (a veritable pharmacy of beneficial plant medicines). Kapitari currently employs 30 local villagers and when the commercial side of the farm is fully sustainable and ready to launch Don Lucho hopes to employ about 300 people in the area of Manacamiri, Loreto, Peru. This is a very poor part of Peru with limited economic opportunity. Iquitos; the closest city is a former rubber boom town completely surrounded by hundreds of miles of thick jungle. The rubber industry came and went in the 20th century and Iquitos now survives largely on tourism. the money raised from this endeavor will go to fund an $18,000.00 industrial sized herbal powder belt drying machine that will extract medicinal properties from plants without the use of alcohol extraction. Kapitari will become an international provider of medicines found exclusively in the Amazon jungle such as: condoncillo, shampumvilla, wasai tree, tawari tree, sodo, and canelilla to name just a few. Don Lucho plans on focusing on a sustainable practice of extracting medicine through the leaves of trees instead of the roots or bark which inevitably damage the species. Don Lucho is currently coordinating with local universities on patenting an organic remedy he discovered to prevent blight that has damaged cacao crops worldwide. The donations given to this project will help Kapitari spread their medicinal knowledge globally as well as their organic sustainable approach to cultivating the land.
