Hi all,
I am going volunteering for a week in May for the Open Arms, Malawi 2019 Project in southeast Africa. Open Arms Malawi is a charity that supports orphans and vulnerable children in the country through building nursery schools and looking after the children in a healthy loving environment.
Since 2006 employees from Johnson and Johnson have been able to take part in building projects and to support the work of Open Arms Malawi. Open Arms help children to survive and achieve their potential. They provide essential health and social care for orphaned babies and support their return to their families. In communities, they promote nutrition, health and preschool education, to build brighter futures for children and their families for generations to come.
About Open Arms Malawi
A Malawian child’s fight for survival begins at birth. 54% of toddlers are stunted by malnutrition. One in sixteen dies before their 5th birthday. Poverty means over 70% stop education by age 11.
Feeding an orphaned baby costs more than most Malawi families earn. Their two centres provide food and care for 80 babies and help them return to extended family. Our community outreach programme provides support, pre-school education and nourishment to 650 vulnerable children in their home villages.
By supporting early child development in one of the world’s poorest countries, they are giving children the opportunity to thrive and develop their potential.
With your help I would love to raise as much funds as possible to help Open Arms with the services they provide. Johnson and Johnson will kindly match my funding so your donation will go even further. You can watch the video I have attached to see how the past projects have made a difference to communities in Malawi so far.
