Theatre In The X

Here we are! This is our third time at bat. Theatre In The X 3 is a go... Almost.

The past couple of years God has responded to the vision conceived as Theatre In The X, and money has come from unexpected corridors, this go around not so much. Luckily last years donations, along with your support of our merchandise, have put us in a position to begin our journey, but we can only begin.

Last year we put on a very well received all BLACK production of William Shakespear's OTHELLO. All three shows were well attended, and made visceral imapact on all who were present. The same can be said about our past productions of NO CHILD as well as the late, great, Amiri Baraka's A BLACK MASS.

This year we will be mounting 3 one act productions. Suzan Lori Parks' THE NEW BLACK MATH, Jeff Stetsons THE MEETING, and local playwright Heather Thomas' LOVE QUEENS WHO SUFFER FROM POST TRAUMATIC STRESS SYNDROME.

A number of other theatre companies in Philadelphia, and the world, have deep pocket donors, who enable them to furnish their respective communities with the storys and images that they feel best reflect their needs, turmoils, and questions in their communities, for their communities. Us...not so much, But we've got one thing that they don't have YOU, ALL OF YOU!!!

We figure we will take the grass roots Obama/ Bernie approach, and instead of reaching out to corporate donors, and institutions, who make the reception of a grant more like jumping through firey hoops, in a gasoline unitard, we would bring our need straight to you the people. Instead of one or two grants who beholden us to their standards, we could get a multitude of small grants from the only folks who we would like to be beholden to, YOU!

Our goal is lofty. Yes, but NOT impossible. This goal is to cover the costs associated with bringing to the underserved West Philadelphia community, the highest level of theatrical art and vision available to us. They cover cost associated with things that are front and center, as well as the behind the scenes costs of things, the likes of which you may not be aware of, including permits, costumes, actor stipends, promotions, rehearsal space, props, and a number of costs that arm us with the needed weponry to blow your minds!!

IDEALLY we would like to be close to our goal by early July. Our production will be up the first 3 Sunday's of August, the 7th, 14th, and 21st. Essentially we should probably have mounted a Kickstarter campaign, but since the stakes are so high for us, and every dollar we can amass is necessary, the risk would be a bit too high.

This Theatre In The X vision is so important to us because of the opportunity that it provides to the children of our community, more so than any other factor or consideration. Sure it is wonderful to give actors of color, in mass, a chance to strut their stuff in front of a longing audience, and to give hope to the older residents of our community, but by and far, it is the kids and the young adults of the neighborhood, and Philadelphia as a whole who stand to benefit from exposure to such staged production and soaring language. The photos from past productions attest to this truth, and make this more than just a labor of love, but NEED.

WE NEED YOU!! Any donation will bring us closer. No one is charged or turned away from our Malcolm X Park production. We are thanking you in advance for even considering, and we appreciate you attention.
