Stop Joshua Tree Solar Farm Now!

Help Stop the Joshua Tree Industrial Solar Development from destroying our pristine desert view shed!

Your support will make the difference!

Joshua Tree needs to win this crucial battle as the community is appealing the Planning Commission's decision allowing this poorly sited and devastating industrial scale solar project to be built in plain view of residents, local businesses, vacation rentals and our countless tourist visitors. The 115 acre project will be in clear view from miles around!

Financial support is humbly requested to help the boots on the ground to defend  and fight to save Joshua Tree from the full scope of the costs of the expected actions related to this effort.

Immediately, we need to cover the $1300.00+  fee required to file the appeal to the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. This is the next step and must be done as soon as possible as a deadline is quickly approaching.

It is assumed that attorney costs will be involved, and an advertising campaign to bring public awareness to the issues. There are only rough estimates to these costs and it is likely that additional funds will be sought. For now, $5000 dollars is requested as a starting point in the assessed needs to competently meet the challenges ahead.

The poorly proposed site is the current location of the historic Roy Williams Airport, named for the famous Walt Disney Mouseketeer and inventor of the World renowned "Mickey Mouse Ears Hat" and countless animated characters  known to Disney fans, everywhere. Williams began working with Walt Disney in 1929 and our little airport brings warm feelings of connectedness just thinking about the association.

The site is located on Sunfair Road in Joshua Tree and is on the same road that leads to the Joshua Tree Music Festival and the Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground that is a key overflow destination for thousands of our tourist visitors who come to Joshua Tree National Park.

The solar farm will be completely visible from the North boundary of the Park and the "lake effect" will create a dominating visual eyesore that has been proven to lure migrating birds to falsely believing they are landing on water.

Many wildlife corridors are associated with the general area and the long fence line will channel animals onto the highly traveled Sunfair Road as there will only be two ways around the solar farm. Going East takes wildlife directly onto the roadway.

Finally, and as a matter of information, other considerations associated with other solar projects also occur including the need for scarce desert water that will be required for cleaning and maintenance, fugitive dust storms from the freshly disturbed soils, habitat losses for existing desert wildlife including burrowing owls, tortoises, and other species, and the fact that a failed and bankrupt solar farm is within half a mile of this site that will add to the "cumulative effect" of adding another similar project so closely to each other.

For many reasons we ask for your consideration and support.
