Justin's Cancer Recovery Fund
While the prognosis for full recovery is positive, this cancer has completely flipped not only Justin’s life, but also his family’s lives upside down. At only 27 years old, Justin has been forced to put the things he’s passionate about on hold. He was planning on attending Optometry School this fall, but will have to postpone those dreams in order to fight off the cancer. His mother, who lives in Las Vegas was forced to leave her home, her job, and her other son, in order to come to Indiana and care for Justin. While there is no place she would rather be than by his side, the situation has put a giant burden on the family. Her intentions were to take Justin back to Las Vegas for treatment, but because the process has already been started here, doing so could delay his treatment up to 6 months – time that he simply does not have.
By the grace of God, Justin recently became insured. However, the medical care he is undergoing is still very expensive and his family is struggling to find ways to cover these bills. Justin also needs additional tests and procedures done that insurance refuses to cover. Unfortunately, life does not stop. His mother continues to have monthly bills and basic living expenses that have to be met. Although we have opened our doors to allow them a place to stay, our lease ends in July. At that time, they will have no place to call their own.
If you know Justin or his family at all, you know that they are strong, wonderful, hardworking people that would give the shirt off their backs for someone in need. As you can imagine, it is a humbling experience to ask for help. However, no one should have to sacrifice his or her health, or worry about getting by financially in a time like this. I know that there are many of you that feel the same way. So if you can, please show Justin and his family the support they need and deserve. Any funds that they receive will help remove the financial burden and allow them to focus on what is truly important. I know that they will be forever grateful for any generosity sent their way! Thank you for taking the time to read Justin’s story.
Hello everyone, I wanted to give a quick update on everything since we are about to embark on another chapter in trying to kill this cancer. I have a PET scan on the 28th and this will give us precise information in regards to taking on the next step of Radiation. Radiation is set to start on the 5th on September and will last for 4 weeks. I will receive radiation Monday-Friday during this 4 week period. I will continue to receive Opdivo (immune therapy) twice a week in addition to receiving radiation. This is an attempt to reduce the tumor size and kill the cancer. I have been battling Lymphoma for over 27 months now and based on how I am feeling now, compared to previous months, I am very optimistic about the future Treatment plan and PET scan. Please continue to pray and support myself and my family during this upcoming battle. God Bless you all.
First, I want to apologize for the length since my last post. I was frustrated with continued bad news and wanted to wait until receiving some GOOD news. Today was that day ironically. Second, a quick catch up --> I have been receiving an immunotherapy (Opdivo) instead of chemotherapy. This drug boosts my immune system to attack the cancer, rather than using toxic chemicals to kill it, essentially. I have went through three cycles (two treatments per cycle) and I had a CT scan on Monday. I was told today that my mass has been shrinking with this most recent treatment!!! Specifically, my mass was measured at 2.1 x 7.3 cm in December and was most recently measured 1.2 x 6.3 cm! This brings great news and positivity that this new approach is working. I want to thank everyone that has continued to pray and support me through all of this. I could not have gotten to this point without the combined efforts of everyone! Please take this weekend to enjoy time with those close around you and realize the sacrifices that were and must be taken to receive and appreciate the GOOD. God Bless
As many of you know, I underwent a stem cell transplant about a month ago. This transplant was a big step to try and eliminate the cancer. I have a PET scan scheduled for this Wednesday to find out if the transplant was successful. Please, I ask that everyone come together and pray that the transplant was a success. Thank you all for your continued support. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and God Bless!
Continued prayers for you Justin, however I’m now praying very specifically for Wednesday’s PET scan to be clear of cancer. I’m also praying that the Lord calms your apprehension and makes you feel His love and strength as you go through this and any future scans.
Continuing to lift Justin to our Heavenly Father. He's also on prayer lists here in my town. Praying that Our Lord's will is that he be completely healed and restored!
