A Boat for Sacred Stone Camp

Donation protected
We are raising money to buy a boat for the Inyan wakankagapi otip - Sacred Stone Camp of the Standing Rock Dakota/Lakota Tribe. The Standing Rock Tribe, in partnership with partnership with the Oectc Sakowin- Seven Council Fires, Indians and Cowboys, and other entities, have been in an ongoing battle to prevent the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. The Sacred Stone Camp is their base of operations for monitoring construction on the pipeline and mounting their resistance. The construction site for the DAPL is just across the water from Sacred Stone Camp, but the campers currently have to drive 2 hours to the closest bridge in order to reach the contruction site. If they have a boat, they can cross the water in a fraction of the time, and get to the construction site much more quickly.

Sacred Stone Camp is on the frontline of the battle against climate change. The Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) is a proposed 1,150 mile crude pipeline which will carry crude oil from the Bakken and western North Dakota to Illinois, further entrenching fossil fuel infrastructure at the expense of indigenous lives and livelihoods. The project crosses treaty territories, threatens the Missouri and Cannon Ball Rivers, and immediately impacts Cannonball, ND and many communities along the river. When the pipeline leaks, it will destroy the water and land that are the main sources of livelihood for the Standing Rock Tribe, and the millions of other people and animals dependent on the Missouri river and the underlying aquifer.

Construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline has begun  despite the fact that the US Army Corps of Engineers has not yet issued permits for the project to cross the Missouri River, in consideration of the environmental impact of the project. The pipeline construction must be stopped at all costs. The boat will enable the campers to monitor the activities of Dakota Access LLC in order to mount a more effective campaign to stop the pipeline. We have secured a boat from a sympathetic seller, and need your help to raise the funds to purchase it for the camp. Your contribution will go a long way to help the ongoing resistance efforts of the Sacred Stone Camp!
