Bear Essentials Care Packs For The Homeless

To the many individuals who call our Melbourne streets home, basic necessities, such as: food, change of under garments, hygiene and toiletry products can be challenging to obtain – sometimes they can be completely out of reach. Although the every day items are inexpensive, they hold a lot of value to those living rough, bringing comfort and dignity to our community in need.

Bear Essentials, a local not-for profit initiative lead by three professional Melburnians, Kat, Michelle and I (Hong), have been operating since early 2015.

Along with the loyalty and generosity of our followers and supporters, our crew have managed to collect, build and distribute close to 200 care packs to the homeless community within the last year.

We are a small and unique operation, running purely on physical donations and vouchers from our supporters. The donated goods are used to form care packs, delivered to individuals via a durable Back Pack - also used to contain and carry belongings, keeping them clean and dry in rough conditions.

During the BE Treks, volunteers are provided with the opportunity to personally distribute the carefully built care packs to our brothers and sisters who are living rough. The BE Care Packs presents several benefits: allowing one to gain the opportunity to give back to the community, whilst the other receives much needed resources. Most importantly, the opportunity allows for every day people to connect and learn from one another.

Here Is How You Can Help.

The BE Team need your help to continue this important work in the terms of funding. We are in need of $3,500 AU to cover the cost of purchasing an additional 200 BE Back Packs, including delivery and administration fees, by 30 June 2016.

We truly believe that it takes a community to build a community. We also believe that it takes very little to achieve great things. But we also recognise that we cannot achieve any of our goals without people like you.

We need your help to reach our goal ($3,500 AU) and we also need your help to tap into your circle of friends, family and colleagues.

To some, the ask will be a small one, and to others, it will be great. But we ask that you give what you can, whether it will be the kind of funding that jingles or the kind which folds. We will be grateful regardless.
