My name is Melissa but I am commonly known as Science Girl. I am raising money to fund my mission of inspiring kids (especially girls) to pursue a career in science through an on-stage interractive science show called, "Science Girl in Dr. Von Heister's Hijinks". I also need to purchase materials for my interractive outreaches in the elementary aged community between shows. Up to this point, I have used only my own money to produce my show and fund outreaches to the community.
On these outreaches, I set up my "lab" and I help kids discover the wonders of science by inviting them to "Step into my lab and perform science experiments with me as my Lab Assistant." The response from the kids and parents is tremendous! I have been invited to attend several events and would like to have the funds to use these opportunities to inspire as many kids as possible!!
I NEED YOUR HELP to continue the work of reaching the next generation by providing the needed additiional funds. These funds will go towards handouts, consumable materials, buttons and stickers for the kids, travel costs, etc. and towards making the "lab" as interactive and amazing as possible.
As a kid, I was inspired to become an on-stage science educator. I wanted to show kids that there is more to science than just reading from your textbook. Finally, when I became a senior in high school, my dream became a reality. I spent 300 hours, a few hundred dollars, and wrote, directed, organized, and starred in a 20 minute play that had 9 showings at our local science museum. It was so amazing to hear the kids laughter and joy when they watched the show and to see their excitement when they joined me in my lab on stage. After my show, kids told me things like, "I want to be a scientist, too". I could see that I was making a difference!
This project overwhelmingly accomplished my goal: inspiring the next generation of scientists. Please join me in my mission to continue my work in the community to make a difference in how kids view science in their future. YOU could be the person whose funds allow me to make a difference in a child's life. I would be so thankful every time I see the spark of interest in the kids' eyes when they discover the amazing world of science!! Let's inspire the next generation together, one future scientist at a time!!
