Patty's Medical Expense Fund

Patty Smith-Bintliff’s Medical Expense Fund:

My beautiful wife Patty has been battling cancer for two years now. She is in the fight for her life right now. Back in November of 2015 after several months of chemo and radiation her lung cancer went into remission, which was a blessing. Unfortunately, two months ago she started having severe headaches, weakness on her left side, and was having difficulty with her balance. We went to her Oncologist and he set her up for an MRI. On the day of the MRI she was immediately admitted to the ER for multiple tumors in her brain. This cancer is non-operable.

Since the new diagnosis of multiple tumors in her brain she has returned for more radiation treatment, which was completed towards the end of April. Now we are in wait mode to see if the radiation treatments were able to stop the tumors from growing and hopefully put them in remission. As optimistic as we are and always have been, in the back of our minds is the fact that Patty has lost several other family members to cancer, including her mom and sister.

If you don’t know the story of Patty and myself, we have known each other for around 34 years. We went to high school together and have always been friends. After school she went her way and I went mine. We would occasionally communicate and run into each other over the years. About 3 ½ years ago (November 2012) we connected thru Facebook and met up for a drink. The sparks between us were instant!

We started dating and two months later I proposed to her. We were married on March 2nd, 2013 in Palm Springs. After getting married she moved from Sedro Woolley to our house in Covington, WA and have been there ever since.

Patty has two sons, Shane and Matt, that she loves dearly and would do anything for. Now she also has my daughter Cherise and our grandson Rhys in her life; she treats them both has her own blood. Her son Shane and his girlfriend Mandy are having a baby, Emma, in May, so for the first time Patty will be a Grandmother; she is very excited about that!

Through all of this, Patty has remained positive and has held her head up high. She is a total fighter! In her words, she finds her “inner bitch” for this fight. I’ve never met someone that has the tenacity that she has. Even with all of her tenacity and positive thinking, she wasn’t able to return to work full time. She worked as much as she could thru all of the treatments, but now she is unable to work at all.

Needless to say this has been a difficult period for us financially. We are still paying medical expenses from the last two years, and are working on year 3 of expenses. This is going to be a lifelong fight for Patty, and will need to continue doctor visits every couple of months to ensure she is clear.

We know that there are many of our friends out there that have shown interest in donating to help with her medical and living expenses. It is not in our nature to ask for help, but we have reached the point of needing help, and we really don't know yet how much time she has.

Stress is not good for the healing process, and financial stress is always difficult. We all want Patty to recover from this challenge and live a great life. I want her to grow old with me, so we can enjoy each other and our wonderful family together.

Any donations you make will be greatly appreciated.
