Our friend and courageous teacher, Laurie Lucas, needs your assistance more than ever!
As many of you know, Laurie was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer less than 2 years ago, in August, 2014. It has metastasized to her lymph nodes and bones, and treatment has been aimed at trying to slow further growth and manage her pain. She will have active cancer on and off for the rest of her life.
She was forced to go on disability halfway through this school year after teaching in Pinckney for 21 years. Her Pathfinder students have honored her with the Courage Award! She is certainly loved and respected by her students and staff. But early retirement means she only gets about 60% of her previous income and she is struggling financially. She has outstanding medical bills (over $1300), needs a new roof , and a new mattress (as current one is painful for her bone cancer).
Laurie has been a brave Wonder Woman (and has a cape to prove it), but depression and anxiety are also overwhelming her. Helping her financially will reduce some of her stress and anxiety.
