1st Burnmoor Access for All Building Renovation

Donation protected
We are a group of over 85 young people from the ages of 6 to 18 and hold weekly meetings for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.  1st Burnmoor Scouts exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development empowering them to make a positive contribution to society, undertaking new and challenging activities. Our scout group is celebrating its 90th Anniversary this year and we are undergoing a project to renovate our current premises, Robert Forster House.

The Hall was opened in 1975 after being built with donations and by local tradesmen; laborers; scouts and the committee members themselves. The group added to the premises by securing a lease on the grounds around the hall, and the group along with the local community have developed the grounds for use by all.

The renovation project is required in order to create much needed “access for all”, with ramp access and disabled toilet facilities. The hall is also being renovated in order to provide better facilities for use by the local community. The hall and grounds are a great location for the community to use. It is currently used by the local school for projects; by the general public for birthday parties, events, social evenings and meetings and by other community groups as a place to hold a sleepover or use the grounds. A monthly grounds day is held for the community to get involved in garden projects.

The planned building renovation will enable even more users to access the new grounds facilities, which will provide improved access to a range of adventure activities improving both physical and social skills. The new bouldering wall, archery range and bush craft area are complete, we are working on the climbing wall and crate stacking area. As well as our “access to all” renovation, we need to create a useable access to the grounds area with improved toilet and shower facilities and access to the kitchen facilities to enhance the availability to the wider public.

The new ramp access will not only allow current group members access the building safely, but will make the building accessible for additional community groups to use.

We are currently looking for donations towards the renovation work and any funds you could provide would be greatly appreciated by the group.
