Pete’s 7 Peaks Challenge

My Challenge.
By now some of you will know that I have decided to take on board a different kind of challenge in order to raise much needed funds for both Cancer Focus Northern Ireland and 'He Cares' who support the street children of the Philippines.
The challenge is simple, to climb to the summit of all seven peaks in the Magnificent Mourne Mountains on Saturday 22nd June 2019. There will be mud, rocks, grassy clops, loose gravel and everything in between. Add this to 30km of steep hiking and you have a serious challenge. All you need is a good level of fitness and experience walking in mountainous terrain and because I have neither I decided to give it a go and have been quietly training on the Belfast Hills and Cavehill and last week moved my training to the Mournes - tough, tough, very tough !!!!
My Reason.
Cancer Focus Northern Ireland is celebrating its 50th birthday and in a small way I would like to support them with their vision to see a day when cancer is no longer a life-threatening disease. A major focus this year is to fund a new pioneering cancer research project at Queens University, Belfast which will work to identify women who are most at risk of developing a second cancer in their other breast, so that they can receive the best, personalized treatment with the aim of saving lives.

'He Cares' has been working with the street children in the Philippines for over 25 years and our close friend Fra has been working with this wonderful organisation for the past 13 years when he headed across the world and started to support Brother Joe Dean Sola and his mission. A major focus in the next few years for 'He Cares' is to make a life on The Promised Land, a sustainable farm project, a reality for 50 very poor families.

My Aim.
With your generous support I hope to raise at least £1000 and will share the monies evenly between Cancer Focus Northern Ireland and 'He Cares'. Please consider an appropriate donation that I know will go a very long way to help these 2 brilliant organisations and I promise to keep you updated on both my training and the wider work of both Cancer Focus Northern Ireland and 'He Cares'.
