A Book to Every Child...
Do you have a first book story? Do you remember that moment when, as a child, your imagination was magically captured by a book that you loved? Nurturing reading in a child is integral to ensuring their successful future. In collaboration with FirstBook, who provides new books to children in need, Give A Book in Your Name shares your moment and its impact by promoting positive experiences in reading. A new book, given to a child, becomes a small gift that impacts a lifetime.

Give A Book in Your Name places your name within a book donated to a child at the Harlem Book Fair (HBF)( www.harlembookfair.com) and throughout Harlem through our community, church, and school-based partners. Donors are asked (but are not required) to post an Instagram or Facebook video on the HBF site ( www.facebook.com/harlembookfair1999) that shares the impact of reading in their lives or why they chose to make a difference through books.

A 3-minute video of children thanking donors for their book will be uploaded to the Harlem Book Fair website, capturing the moment when their books are received. Through participation in Give A Book in Your Name, donors will be acknowledged as belonging to a national and passionate community of literacy advocates.

Donation levels:
$2 – donates one book            $10 – donates five books
$20 – donates ten books        $50 – donates 25 books
$100 – donates 50 books

Who can participate? All who are interested in sharing the impact of books in their lives; all who understand the impact of illiteracy in America and how literacy empowers a nation. All who wish to give the gift of Imagination! in their name.

Here on Mandela Day 2015, I am donating the the Harlem Book Fair in honor of the work Nelson Mandela has done to challenge mankind and womenkind to reach their best human potential, no matter what age the starting point of any given learning stage is. Reading is crucial in understanding and embracing the lives of others and in helping each and every one of us to dream about what can be possible. Thanks HBF!

I began reading as a young child, and reading has made a great difference in my life. Now I am retired, and I love the fact that I can spend even more time reading!
