Basics for West Hamilton Refugees

My name is Karin Humphreys, and I am a professor at McMaster University, in Ontario, Canada. I have the privilege to be speaking for a group of volunteers, mostly from the McMaster University Community, and the West Hamilton neighbourhood. There are currently 14 federally sponsored refugee families who have come to our local school community, and more will be joining us soon if all goes well. Most families are Syrian, some are Somali. Our group has been collecting donations of household goods, and providing interpretation for families, and for kids in school.
There are many household items that these folks desperately need, and we are hoping to raise some money to help.
There are many things they need , but our current goal is simply for curtains for the families so they can feel secure in their own apartments.
One of our newcomer dads was a tailor back in Syria, and he has offered to make custom curtains for all 14 families for free.
We wish to buy materials for all the curtains so that he can make them. We can lend him a not very good sewing machine, but we'd LOVE to be able to get enough funds (even above our target?) to buy a professional level refurbished machine that he can keep, and begin to work for himself, as well as help for more newcomer families.
If we got any funds above our requested level, oh my goodness we can put it to good use for these folks, and potentially more Hamilton newcomers as well!
We would LOVE this to happen by May!
