ZWFMiami Hurricane Irma Relief Fund

Donation protected
To our loyal ZWF Community,

Many people in our region have fallen on harsh times as parts of Texas, The Caribbean, and Florida have been ravaged by hurricanes and tropical storms for the last several weeks. As Hurricane Irma made its landfall in South Florida this weekend, the wildlife, habitats, and endangered species protected by ZWF were severely impacted during the storm.

As of Thursday September 7, ZWF closed its doors and to take protective measures in ensuring the safety of the animals and their habitats in preparation for the storm.

While we were fortunate to not receive a direct hit from Irma, the devastation left by the destructive winds and storm surge is substantial.

All of the animals and their families are all doing fine, but their habitats and facilities have been severely damaged. For their health and safety, we ask for the support of our community as we move quickly to rebuild these facilities.

Below are some examples of the critical damages to ZWF caused by hurricane Irma:

 - Most of the animal enclosures have been destroyed

 - Trees have been torn from the ground and are scattered all over the property

 - Branches are tangled in the electric poles

 - There are live electrical wires on the ground

 - There is no power at the facility

-  No running water

 - We are running our of diesel fuel to power our generators

We have a tremendous amount of work on our hands to make all necessary repairs.

As the storm has caused ZWF to be closed since Sept 7, the funds to maintain and rebuild the facility are dangerously low, with no clear date of when the park can reopen.

We ask for your help to:

- provide new enclosures for our animals

- Repair enclosures that are repairable

- Provide veterinary care for our animals

- Provide feeding and special diets catered to each animals needs

- Provide operation support for our recovery staff of 26 people

- provide fresh water

- Provide diesel fuel for the park generators

- Re-open our facility to the public

We ask for your help through donations of any amount- large or small it all adds up!

We are a self-funded facility and will continue to do our best to provide for these animals, but we will need the support of our community to be able to recover from the damage Irma has caused.

We have an immediate need for diesel fuel and rely on it to run our generator that keeps fresh water for the animals.

Your support during these tragic times would truly be appreciated. While the damage is heart-breaking, we have faith that we can fully recover with your support.

Thank you,

Mario & Maria
